For 26 years…!

File0051

Dear Brielle,

All day long I have thought of you! Since 7:28am this morning. It is almost unfathomable to realize it has been 26 years since the date of your birth!

This evening I just sat pondering your birth.

We lived in Honeybrook, PA. I remember waking up in the middle of the night, about 1:00am and by 3:00am we were making our way to the hospital. It don’t take long at all after that.  You couldn’t wait. There you were! 7:28am.

It was amazing! You were amazing!

The delivery nurse was cleaning you up and then she gave you to me. You cuddled up in my arms right away.

The nurse began to fill out paper work and she asked what your name was.  We knew if you were a girl, you were Brielle.  As soon as I said your name, the nurse said, “my neice is named Brielle.” I’ve never heard it used before. Where did you get it?

So I told her the story of a beautiful, blue eyed babe I had held in my arms when I was visiting my sister in the area- long before we ever moved to Pennsylvania. She began to put things together. Soon we realized the baby I spoke of was her neice. She had been born in the same hospital. Boy did you get special treatment after that. She was the same nurse that checked us out of the hospital with every free thing she could give us from diapers to formula.

As a little girl, you didn’t want to learn to read, so we asked you to draw a picture of what we read to you.  That was all you needed. Pretty soon you were drawing your own pictures and wanted to write the story about them.  Then you wanted to learn to read and write to make a story come alive.

Since then you have used your skill with paint, pencils and paper to tell many of your own stories. To show me the textures of mine. From you I’ve learned to look at life from many angles and see it for the beauty that is there.  To look at people and love beyond my own preferences and beliefs.
