Delight for 2015!

I have struggled to find the right WORD for the new year!

I usual pick one, or a few to remind me what I want to be about.

For the last two years I chose

  • GIVE the gift of PRESENCE
  • EXPERIENCE VITALITY
  • GENERATE INSPIRATION
  • GRAB HOLD of FREEDOM
  • TAKE PLATFORMS to INFLUENCE

They have been good words which continue to remind me what I want to be about. I made progress in each area but have significant steps that remain. You may not know what I mean by them. But I do. I read them over regularly in an effort to stay focused on my purpose.

But I was struck yesterday morning as Rennie was preaching for a pastor friend was on vacation. He used Psalm 1 “Blessed is the one who….”

The New living translation says:
Oh, the joys of those who …  delight in the law of the Lord, They are like trees planted along the riverbank.   Psalm 1:1-3

delight like trees

DELIGHT jumped off the page at me. It occurred to me that if I would choose just one word for last year it would have been disappointing. I knew good things happened last year, like the Naked Truth conference, losing 30 lbs., getting a writing coach and seeing some things begin to appear on paper.

But in each instance, something equally disappointing happened. I won’t go into it here now cause I just don’t want to complain.

I want to delight!

  • I want to look back on the past with delight and gratitude.
  • I want to look forward with delight to things yet to come.
  • I want to see the beauty of a person or a situation
  • Rather than just looking for the lesson learned
  • Or the pain endured.

Here me now, there has been good that has come from the last 8-12 years. But much of it has been heavy, weighed down by loss and my consumed thoughts of it. Each year I came a little closer to joy,  but not quite, as if I can’t allow myself to go there.

But this year- God says DELIGHT!

Here are some of the things I found in my study of the word in scripture.

Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your hearts desires.
Psalm 37:4

  • Delight in his voice
  • Delight in his word
  • Delight in his law
  • Delight in his commands
  • Delight in honoring him
  • Delight in the Almighty
  • Delight in the Lords perfections
  • Delight in his amazing deeds
  • How delightful to sing his praises.
  • Take delight in following my ways.
  • Take delight in honoring each other

And I liked these too:

  • Delight in your marriage
  • Delight in your husband’s presence
  • Let your husband delight in your beauty
  • Be full of delights

But I was especially grateful for these:

  • See that God delights in me!
  • And delights in blessing His servant with peace
  • He delights in every detail of our life.
  • The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their trust in him.
  • He corrects a child in whom he delights

That’s quite a list and I didn’t include everything.

DELIGHT denotes joy! Listen to the definitions I found.

: a strong feeling of happiness

: great pleasure or satisfaction

: something that makes you very happy

: something that gives you great pleasure or satisfaction

Is that how you feel about all the things God told us to delight in above?

I haven’t always been. Sometimes I don’t like laws very much- but I know that they are for my good and the good of others. But even then, do I delight in them? Often the best I can do is appreciate… But delight?

Well! This is the year God has invited me to “taste and see” that He is good and that He wants me to delight in Him as He delights in me.

I’m really looking forward to what He will show me as I delight in Him!

What’s your delight?

What’s your word for 2015?

Leave a comment to share below. Who knows who will be inspired by your word for the year.

I know I’ll be “delighted” to read it!
