Is your marriage on your list?

Did your marriageThe beginning of the next- a new page, a new start!  We did or didn’t make resolutions about our health, our job, and our future. We set goals for our projects for the year.  We chose a WORD to focus on. We clarified our vision!  All great stuff!  And probably you either feel invigorated by the process or it has left you feeling a weight that seems overwhelming!

I made three resolutions this year with more specifics than I’l share here, but this will give you the general idea.

1. To conquer some life squelching debt that threatens to overtake us.  One way I will do that is …

2. To continue to build a life changing and income producing business

  • by taking advantage of networking connections,
  • by caring for my GHC community and the clients that trust me with their story and their dreams,
  • by treating my business as my business and not just my ministry.

3. To continue to grow in my relationship with my husband,

This third resolution is actually my MUST DO resolution.  My husband’s love & support is necessary to make #2 even possible.  Our goal is to grow together physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  Then as a team, we will conquer #1.

So …is your marriage your list?

Maybe you added date night once a week to your growing list of things to do in the new year.  But have you ever sat down and identified what you want to be true of your marriage, of your relationship.  If you have (for which I applaud you)  have you revisited that set of values recently?

Over the years, we’ve been challenge to ask seven Dangerous Questions: (You can find these in Linda Dillows’ book, What’s it like to Be Married to Me?”)

1. What is really important to me about our relationship?

2. What does it feel like to be my husband?  my wife?

3. Am I willing to change my attitude about my spouse? or life issues?

4. What will it take for me to be close to you?

5. What is it like to make love to me?

6. Why do I want to stay mad at you?

7. Is it possible to grow together when things fall apart?

You probably won’t take on all 7 questions at once, but as you consider one at a time,  they make for great discussion when you are both seeking to grow in your relationship.  But a great deal of growth can be experienced even if only one partner is willing to take the challenge of wrestling with answers.

Probably one of the most significant issues we find with couples we work with is the emotionally charged discussion about question #5. Often it is because some of the other questions are not answered well in the relationship. But issues  involving our sexual relationship and the intimacy we also experience emotionally, mentally & spiritually is pivotal to the making of a great marriage.

In an effort to help you succeed with your marriage goals, here at GHC, we are offering two groups this Saturday morning, January 10th  to help you continue, or perhaps begin the dialog about core matters of your relationship.

Passion Pursuit for women will meet for 10 weeks on Saturday mornings at 9:00am Linda Dillow & Juli Slattery(location to be determined depending on registrations) if you don’t live nearby, but would like to be part of an online group, let me know asap. I have seen some tremendous transformation as a result of this study in my own life but also in the lives and marriages of others. Not only does it give a powerful reminder of God’s design for intimacy in marriage, but it gives effective tools to help us discuss, process, and experience victory as we go.
